Progress will continue on a feasibility study to examine Huron’s options for developing a recycling program and perhaps a waste to energy system that would use unrecyclable trash and turn it into a Process Engineered Fuel or PEF, either a combustible fuel pellet or lightweight pulp called fluff. Non-recyclable items would then be used for the selected PEF. A landfill option will also be looked at further. The city would look to extract methane gas from decomposing garbage to burn for electricity. However usable methane would take up to three years to obtain.
