The Huron City Commission has made changes and is putting a plan in place to deal with the unexpected closing of Verto’s, the restaurant attached to the Crossroads Hotel and Huron Event Center. The new ownership group of the Crossroads told city leaders they were closing the restaurant and relinquishing two alcoholic beverage licenses. Commissioners held first reading of a language change to the city ordinance regarding the issuing of special licenses. City Attorney Jeff Banks says the changes alter the number of permits issued from 15 to 52 per year..
Mayor Paul Alyward says the change should help the city maintain the ability to serve alcohol for events held at the Huron Event Center….
Also on the agenda was an agreement to hire Brenda Jager as the manager of the Huron Event Center. Jager had a similar role but through the Crossroads Hotel. Commission Bryan Smith wanted the item moved to an executive session, set up to discuss a contractual matter, since the agreement had been presented to Commissioners at the start of the meeting. After meeting for nearly an hour behind closed doors, Commissioners moved to approve a one-year contract with Jager to manage the Event Center…

Commissioners also approved two special event on-sale alcohol licenses for the Huron Event Center spanning from February 15th through March 5th.
