Monday afternoon, the city commission heard the first reading of a small cell facility ordinance.
City attorney Jeff Banks says the ordinance addresses new wireless technology.
While the word facility may conjure up images of a building, the word actually refers to a box that would be installed on existing light or utility poles.
Due to the limited range, several of these facilities would be needed.
Banks says the ordinance is based on a model ordinance developed by the South Dakota Municipal Attorneys Association.
Second reading of the ordinance will be held next Monday.
