City Hears Semi-Annual Update from GHDC

Monday night, the city heard the semi-annual from Greater Huron Development Corporation.

Executive vice-president and COO, Ted Haeder said currently GHDC isn’t focused on recruiting new business to Huron but on assisting and expanding existing businesses.

Haeder said work should be completed soon on a new spec building in the West Industrial Park.

He said wet conditions has slowed development of Vantage Business Park, which is located east of Custer Ave. and south of Highway 14.

When asked by Commissioner Gary Harrington about Iverson Auto’s Southtown expansion, Haeder said Iverson’s should break ground this month unless something has changed.

In other business:

The city tabled action on variance requests from Greater Huron Development Corporation, in the Southtown Addition. GHDC is requesting to allow:

  • 20’ front and rear yard setbacks, where code requires 25’ to 30’ front and rear yard setbacks
  • 90’ lot frontages, where code requires a minimum 100’ lot width
  • Two-family homes, where code only allows a single family home in areas zoned One Family Residential District, One-Family, Two-family, and Townhouse Residential District and Multiple Family Residential District.
