The City of Huron has been recycling for one year already. Solid Waste Superintendent Dale Fortin stopped by the Huron City Commission meeting Monday night to update Commissioners on the programs progress. He says just over 1800 residential containers are getting picked up every week…
Fortin says since the city started using a radio frequency I-D system to monitor collections, the number of empty containers being dumped has dropped….
The collection differential between solid waste collections and recycling pulled from it has been good for the first year….
The city has a goal of another 500 recycling container going into service..
On average a household in Huron generates 125 pounds of municipal solid waste. Those participating in the recycling program are diverting around 31 pounds of recyclable materials out of the solid waste stream.
