Monday night, the city heard an update from Stockwell Engineers Inc. on the 3rd Street Dam project.
The project involves installing boulders on the downstream side of the low-head dam to remove the undertow. The undertow creates a significant safety hazard.
Field Inspector Dexter Mahrt said the project got underway last Monday.
Mahrt said work is proceeding well helped by favorable weather.
Also last night, commissioners authorized the Huron Police Department to apply for up to $52,000.00 in Department of Homeland Security Grant funds.
The funds would be used to purchase Level 3 tactical body armor for the Special Response Team.
Police Chief Kevin Van Diepen said the current vests expired 2 years ago and need to be replaced for the safety of officers.
The monies will also be used to purchase 2 P25 compatible Digital Mobile Radios.
