City Commission To Hold Second Reading On Rental Housing Ordinance Tonight

The Huron City Commission will hold it’s regular weekly meeting tonight after having last week off because of President’s Day. Commissioners will consider awarding a bid for street milling, overlay and paving project. The Commission will also consider a request to rebid, bids for a two-way live floor trailer for the solid waste department. Commissioners will also consider two change orders for the Central Park project. Semi-annual updates from the South Dakota State Fair and Huron Senior Center will also be presented. The Commission will consider a request by the 153rd Engineering Battalion to use the old landfill for recovery and convoy training. Commissioners will also consider a plat request and a contract with the Huron Country Club for untreated water irrigation. Commissioners will hold second reading of a rental housing provisions ordinance. To go with that ordinance is consideration of a resolution that would set the fees for the rental house registration part of the ordinance. The first reading of a rezoning petition ordinance will also be held. A first reading for an ordinance on erosion and sediment control enforcement. The Commission will consider authorizing Police Chief Gary Will, Jr. to apply for a Homeland Security Grant to purchase a handheld through wall sensor. Commissioners will consider a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee to raise the speed limit on Jersey Avenue to 25 miles per hour. The Commission will also consider additional 2012 year end transfers, two hiring recommendations and the 2013 Police Department Policy Manual. The Huron City Commission will also meet in executive session. The Huron City Commission meets tonight at the Huron Municipal Building at 5:30 PM. The meeting is open to the public.
