The Huron City Commission held its regular meeting Monday night. Commissioners set March 28th as the bid date for LED light packs for the underground parking garage at the Crossroads and decorative lighting. The light packs could save the city around 15-hundred dollars a year in energy costs and are being paid for by federal stimulus monies granted to Huron through the Green Energy Task Force. The City approved a Quit Claim Deed to transfer a parcel of land to the Greater Huron Development Corporation where officials are working on bring a business to Huron that could bring with it 10 to 15 new jobs. Commissioners approved the purchase of new handguns and 9-1-1 equipment that will interact better with the police departments two-way radios. The Commission approved full time status for a street department employee and hired a new police officer. The Commission also agreed to reimburse city employees for a Commercial Drivers Licence training class. The Commission met in executive session twice Monday night, once for negotiations, the held a work session on the Capital Assets Budget before heading back into executive session for a personnel matter.
