The Huron City Commission is meeting tonight at the Huron Municipal Building. The Commission will recess to convene as the Board of Adjustments to consider a conditional use permit filed by SBA Communications and Verizon Wireless. The group wants to construct an 80-foot monopole cell phone tower at the Performance Radio studios at 1726 Dakota Avenue south. The stations existing equipment tower would be removed and it’s hardware moved to the cell tower. When the City Commission reconvenes, Commissioners will hear a semi-annual update from the Beadle County Humane Society and will consider annual trailer court license renewals for five Huron mobile home parks. The Commission will also consider a request by the South Dakota State Fair for help with law enforcement during the Wissota 100 in September. In a similar request, the only departmental item of the night is a request to allow Huron Police Department officers to provide security at the Crossroads July 25th for a concert. In making the request, Police Chief Denny Meyer says off duty officers would be asked to work the concert and the Crossroads will repay the city. The State Fair is also offering to reimburse the city for the officers time. The Commission will also consider the approval of the proposed Jefferson Village Apartments and authorize Mayor Paul Aylward to sign a letter of the support. There are no scheduled work session items, however a contractual matter is listed to be discussed in executive session. The Huron City Commission meets tonight at 5:30 PM. The meeting is open to the public.
