The Huron City Commission, meeting as the Board of Adjustments, approved two variances Monday night that will help Horizon Health Care in it’s efforts to establish a health center in Huron. One variance cleared the way for Horizon’s temporary clinic on Third Street. The second was filed by the Huron Mall, as Horizon is looking to remodel the former Osco Store into is main facility. A third variance was approved for a medical building to be build across the street to the south of Huron Regional Medical Center. Officials with Horizon and the Huron Mall declined to comment on the projects when prompted by Mayor Dave McGirr. Horizon representatives said they would make a statement at a later date. When the City Commission reconvened, Commissioners approved a plat filed by Dennis Estabrook and accepted the presentation of the 2010 Audited Financials. The City of Huron fared well again with the audit, with only three minor incidental items noted. Commissioners authorized Mayor Dave McGirr to sign a financial assistance agreement with the state Department of Transportation for snow removal equipment at the airport and hired a part time skating instructor. The Commission met in executive session for a contractual matter and union negotiations and held work sessions to review the budget and Business Improvement District Ordinance.
