City Commission Approves Variance Request in Morningside Village

The bulk of last night’s city commission meeting was devoted to a variance request filed by Jody Ramon, of 83 Aberdeen Ave NE in Morningside Village, wants to construct a 50 by 80 foot shed on her property.

Some neighbors voiced concerns about the project including possible water drainage issues.

In the end, the commission, acting as the board of adjustment, approved the request with the conditions recommended by the planning commission, including a 5’ setback, if the shed doesn’t have garage doors, or a 20’ setback, if the shed does have garage door, from the alley lot line. A 3’ setback from the side property line is also required. The lots must be surveyed before the building permit can be issued.

Since the project is outside city limits, Ramon must also get approval from the Beadle County commission.
