The City of Huron is one step closer to allowing the sale of distilled spirits on Sundays. The Huron City Commission approved the first reading of an ordinance that would make that change Monday night. Mayor Paul Aylward says the ordinance would bring Huron in line with state law…
Just over a half dozen liquor license holders signed an informal petition addressed to the City Commission supporting the change. Commissioner Doug Kludt is also in favor of the proposed change….

Commissioner Gary Harrington also supports expanding liquor sales to Sunday for such things as the State Fair, WISSOTA 100 car races and pheasant season. Aberdeen, Yankton, Pierre, Vermillion, Strugis and Brookings are among larger South Dakota cities where Sunday sales are permitted. The Commission approved first reading on a four-one vote with Robish voting against. Second reading of the ordinance is set for August 31st.
