City Commission Approves Change To Transient Merchant Ordinance

The Huron City Commission approved second reading of changes made to Huron’s ordinance dictating transient merchants, or merchants who sell from a mobile or non-stationary platform. City Attorney Gerry Kaufman says the only change was the addition of the word consecutive to a section of the ordinance…

The remainder of the ordinance is unchanged from it’s original wording. The changes came about when a Huron area transient merchant asked if anything could be done to lengthen the time period between permits, so they wouldn’t have to renew so often. Vendors and merchants at the South Dakota State Fair are exempt from the City of Huron Transient Merchant ordinance. The changes should become official in about a month.
