Last night, the city commission authorized the Huron Police Department to apply to the U.S Department of Justice for the ballistic vest partnership/body armor safety initiative grant program.
The grant program reimburses agencies up to 50% of the cost of vests.
The cost of each vest is between $600-$800.
The department foresees purchasing approximately 13 vests next year.
