The City has authorized a Sioux Falls company to conduct an inspection of the Huron Event Center parking ramp.
Infrastructure Design Group, Inc. will perform an in-depth inspection and structural analysis of the parking ramp to identify needed areas of repair and develop a maintenance.
The parking ramp was constructed in 1986. The structure is currently experiencing some settlement concerns along with concrete deterioration.
City Engineer Brett Runge says the inspection is not in the 2018 budget.
Runge says the company has already been on site.
City Commissioner Doug Kludt asked Runge about the possibility of abandoning or demolishing the structure.
Infrastructure Design Group, Inc. will also inspect the 3rd Street Bridge in the fall and will inspect the parking ramp while they are in town to save on travel expenses.
Also last night, the city heard the first reading of the 2019 appropriation ordinance.
City Finance Director Paulynn Carey says the proposed budget for 2019 is $31,467,926 which represents a 1 percent over the current budget of $31, 330, 122.
Carey says at this time the city is projecting a total property tax increase of $148,098. She expects to have new numbers from the county this week or early next week.
Carey says the total sales tax increase for 2019 is projected to be $220,000.
The second reading of the ordinance is scheduled for September 24.
