Last night the city commission convened as the Board of Adjustment to consider four variance requests.
The board approved the following requests:
Variance request by Todd Evans at 1310 Frank SE, to construct a detached garage, which will be 255 square feet over code. Code states all structures on the lot including accessory buildings shall not exceed 30% of the lot area in an area zoned one family residential district. Approval was given on the condition that all setbacks are met and the structure is not taller than 25′.
Variance request by David Stahl, 107 Market St E, to construct a pole building 5’ from the west property line where code requires a 12’ side yard setback and 7’ from the north property line where code requires a 12’ rear yard setback in an area zoned general industrial district.
Variance Request filed by Nathan Faul, 1279 Dakota S, to allow a garage only to remain on the lot where code requires a principal building/dwelling unit in an area zoned multiple family residential district. Approval was granted on the condition there is no outside storage at the location.
Variance Request filed by Jeffrey VanWinkle, 616 Dakota S, to construct an addition to the east side of the house which will be 576 square feet over code. Code states all structures on the lot including accessory buildings shall not exceed 30% of the lot area and be 6’ from the detached garage where code requires a 10’ setback in an area zoned multiple family residential district. The screen porch will be removed and the addition will be in line with the existing house.
Also last night, the city presented Water and Sewer superintendent Vince Juelfs with the Siger Bies award from the South Dakota Water and Wastewater Association.
In other business, the city approved a purchase agreement for 1.97 acres south of the Plains. The city will purchase the land from SMO LLC for $70,000.
