Citizen's Police Academy Meets One Last Time

The members of the Huron Police Department’s Spring Citizen’s Police Academy will gather togehter as a group for the final time tonight as they get to make, the life or death decisions on using lethal force or not. The 12 students are getting the chance to use the Police Department’s Use of Force Simulator. Real police grade firearms have been retrofited with lazers in the barrels and use carbon dioxide to simluate the guns recoil. The interactive computer system will place the students in a number of real life situations. They will then need to choose whether to fire at a threat or not. The Citizen’s Police Academy was supposed to have used the simulator during the main 10 week course that ended June 14th. However a room for the simulator at Campus Center was not completed in time. The room is now a permenant training center for the Police Department complete with space for tables and classes. A number of students are also continuing to take ride alongs with on duty Huron Police officers
