The 2012 Spring Huron Citizen’s Police Academy is coming to a close. After ten weeks of class time, shooting, ride-a-longs and other exposure to the job of a police officer, the 12 members of the first class to take part in the academy’s reincarnation will graduate tonight. Before the accolades are handed out the class will learn about community policing efforts and crime prevention. While the formalities of the Police Academy will end tonight the group will meet one more time to use the Police Department’s Use of Force Simulator, which will put students in life or death situations and force them to make a split second decision to use deadly force on a subject or not. Students will also be finishing ride-a-long assignments for the next few weeks.
