Despite recent economic turmoil in China, the country is retaining its hunger for pork. That’s according to officials with Smithfield Foods. South Dakota Pork Producers Council President Lester Moeller of Miller says much of that demand is for U.S. products.
Analysts say that pork shipments to China have been up more than 45 percent this year. Moeller says that bodes well for even more business in the future for U.S. pork.
Moeller says besides Smithfield there are other companies that are supplying China with U.S. pork. He says the Chinese like the product so well they’ll go to almost any lengths to get it.
