Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe closes highways through reservation

4/5/2020

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe has closed off US 212 from the Meade Ziebach County line to the Missouri River bridge.  They have also close SD 63 from Ziebach County line west of Eagle Butte to north of Timber Lake, at the Corson County line.  Chief Charles LeComp with Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal law enforcement said the checkpoint is measure to control the spread of Covid-19 on the reservation.

The checkpoints do not affect commercial drivers who are going through the reservation.  He said the checkpoint is to monitor where incoming traffic is headed and if non tribal or not a resident of Dewey or Ziebach county to know where they are headed.  It is all to protect the health of their population.

The checkpoints began over the weekend.
