The Workforce Housing Needs in SD Interim Study Committee held their first meeting of the 2021 interim earlier this month in Pierre with attendees in person and via video conference.
The Committee is chaired by Representative Roger Chase (R-Huron) with vice chair Senator Casey Crabtree (R-Madison), Chase reviewed what was covered.
The current elevated cost of building materials is having an impact on housing projects Chase said the Committee heard representatives address this.
Chase said with the current trend of an interest in residents of other state looking at moving to South Dakota. Those potential increases in residents account for the biggest reason for a housing shortage.
The Interim Workforce Housing Needs in SD committee discussed housing concerns attracting growth; received information on public housing financing; and heard from several housing-related organizations.
