ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) – We now know where a large influx of animals to the Beadle County Humane Society came from in April. More than 30 animal abuse-related charges against a Faulk County woman have been dismissed – at least for now. Charges against 48-year-old Dixie B. Kodet have been dismissed without prejudice. That means they could be refiled at a later date. Kodet had been charged with two counts of allowing injured or diseased animals to suffer needlessly and 33 counts of inhumane treatment of animals. All of the counts were misdemeanors. Thirty five rat terrirors were removed from Kodet’s rural Faulkton home after authorities discovered them during a probation check. Authorities said the dogs were living inhumane conditions. Two of the dogs were found dead. The others were taken to the Beadle County Humane Society. At the time the animals arrived in Huron, Humane Society Executive Director Kim Kreuger said she could not say where the animals came from due to an ongoing investigation.
