A proposed ordinance that would have eliminated the odd/even day part of snow alerts was defeated by the Huron City Commission Monday. The change was encouraged by former Public Safety Director Gary Will, Jr. The first reading was approved last week but Commissioner Doug Kludt had a change of heart after hearing input from the public…
One reason for attempting to change the ordinance arose from the number of times that two odd or two even days would be back to back.. The change would have basically meant no parking on any street until it was plowed meaning those without off-street parking would have to find something to do with their vehicles. Commissioner Gary Harrington also voted against it…
The Commission voted three to one to not change the ordinance with Commissioner Mark Robish being the lone yes vote. A second snow related ordinance was approved. It dictates how snow in the CORE area of Huron can be removed. It says snow can be moved towards parking areas in front of some downtown businesses with parking spots to be cleared by the city. Sidewalks also must be treated with sand or salt to make them safe to walk on.
