Even though Governor Dennis Daugaard has canceled a special legislative session regarding a new veteran’s home at Hot Springs, a state lawmaker from Mitchell still has questions. The federal Veteran’s Administration has granted an extension for the state to complete its plans for the project without losing a $23.6-million dollar grant. District 20 State Representative Lance Carson is vice-chairman of the House Appropriations committee and believes the project will once again come before the group….
Bids for the project came in over $10-million dollars above estimates prompting the Governor to call lawmakers back to Pierre and make up the shortfall or risk losing the federal dollars. Carson is confident they’ll find more savings….
The state has until February of 2014 to finalize the project.
