Rainfall totals are being reported in the Brookings area of six to seven inches and even more. A flood warning is in effect until 8:50 tonight. Many city streets were flooded this morning and numerous county and township roads are still flooded.
Brookings County Emergency Manager Bob Hill:
Hill says there is water over numerous county roads.
And there are likely many township roads under water. Hill expects the flooding to continue for a day or two…
There was six-point-one inches of rain recorded at the SDSU weather station in Brookings, 7.66 was reported in Indian Hills, 7.8 inches in Bushnell.
In addition to the heavy rain overnight, the SouthBrook Softball Complex was extensively damaged by very high winds.
Brookings Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Dan Brettschneider:
He says the picnic shelter was heavily damaged and is not useable. He says the complex is closed.
Brettschneider says they have no idea at this point when it might reopen.
Other parks in the city are closed because of the heavy rain…
Whether the damage at Southbrook was caused by straight line winds or a twister is unknown at this point although County Emergency Manager Hill says there not any reports of tornadic activity in the county.
