By the slimmest of margins, a $4.5 million bond issue that would have made upgrades to the Wessington Springs high school has failed at the polls.
According to the Daily Republic 59 percent of the 751 votes cast Tuesday were in favor of the project, that is seven votes short of the 60 percent required to pass the issue.
Upgrades were planned to the heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical systems, sprinkler system, bathrooms, flooring and windows. An elevator would have also been installed.
Voters also said no to a $1 million bond issue that would have partially funded the construction of a new auxiliary gym.
