The Huron Board of Education has voted to support a program designed to save lives in the event of an active shooter situation or other emergencies.
“Stop the Bleed” is a program that would place medical kits including gauze, tourniquets, and surgical tape in schools across South Dakota. The program would also train school staff in bleeding control techniques.
Executive Director of the HRMC Foundation, Paul Rann, spoke to the board about the program.
Rann says the program has been identified as a high priority.
Rann says the state has allocated money for the program, prioritizing rural areas which do not have direct access to hospitals, EMTs, or community partners who could help with funding. He says Beadle County is unlikely to receive any of that money.
The Foundation has committed $5,000 to the program.
The board voted to support the program and pledged $5,000 to “Stop the Bleed”.
