Last night, the Huron Board of Education heard from Rodney Mittelstedt, Director of ESL, Federal Programs & Accreditation.
Mittelstedt shared a report on ESL (English as Second Language).
The number of ESL students has grown over the years. In 2009-2010, there were 297. There were 810 in the 2017-2018 school year.
This school year there are a total of 821 ESL students in K-12:
Buchanan 204
Madison 204
Washington 121
Middle School 94
High School 172
Riverside Colony 13
Huron Colony 13
Currently, ESL students represent 31% of Huron’s enrollment.
Mittelstedt says nations represented in the Huron School District include:Thailand Burma

Mexico
Somalia

Dominican Republic
