Garret Bischoff, of rural Huron, has announced his candidacy for re-election to the Huron School District 2-2 Board of Education. Bischoff, 37, is a fourth-generation family farmer, who, alongside his parents and brother’s family, owns and operates Ravine Creek Ranch a family farming operation that raises Registered Hereford cattle and grows corn and soybeans.
“Student achievement has been my number one priority in the 6 years I’ve served on Huron’s Board of Education. Every student deserves the opportunity to achieve and grow to their fullest potential. With over 2,600 students in our school system this has been no easy task,” Bischoff said. “We have focused on recruiting and retaining the most talented employees possible, I believe that great employees are the foundation of not only our school system’s success, but also the foundation of our community. Each year our student achievement numbers continue to grow, I believe our efforts are working.”
A native of Huron, Bischoff graduated from Huron High School in 1999. He attended South Dakota State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general studies. Bischoff is currently serving in his sixth year on the Huron School Board and is currently vice president of the board. He also serves on the board of the Associated School Boards of South Dakota, was a board member of the Huron Community Foundation from 2013 to 2018, was chairman of Leadership Huron in 2010, and is a member of the Beadle County 4-H Leaders Association.
“Serving on Huron’s School Board has been a truly rewarding experience for me. We have worked hard to improve and maintain facilities that are appropriate for our school size and enrollment while remaining fiscally responsible. We have also recently undergone a branding initiative that has created a new and unique professional image for our district,” Bischoff said. “We have been at the forefront of the discussion in the state on the recent changes to the school funding formula. I have enjoyed being part of a great set of leaders the past 6 years that have made all of this possible, I want to thank the Huron community for your faith in me and hope to have your continued support.”
Huron’s School Board election is scheduled for April 9, 2019.
