The House Local Government Committee debated, and killed a bill this week that would have allowed local governments to post online their official minutes and other documents instead of paying a local newspaper to publish them. A lobbyist for the Sioux Falls School District said they spend about forty five thousand dollars a year publishing that information. Representative Anne Hajek of Sioux Falls referring to a poll that showed eighty six percent of people had internet access in Sioux Falls, made the motion to move the bill to the forty first legislative day, effectively killing it…
Hajek said newspapers should take notice…
Representative Scott Craig of Rapid City said that just because something is published in a newspaper doesn’t make it true or accurate…
The Committee then voted to kill the bill.
