HURON, S.D. – March 30, 2020 – The return of the snowbird is a sign of spring in the area. Though this year, those returning have new worries with coronavirus (COVID-19).
Numerous citizens spend their winters in warm areas, which heightens the concern about the spread of COVID-19. The Beadle County COVID-19 Unified Task Force has recommendations for those returning to Beadle County, instead of immediately visiting our friends and family.
The Beadle County COVID-19 Unified Task Force encourages those returning home to practice good social distancing techniques. Instead of jumping in a car to go visit those you’ve missed, wait a few days, to see if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. You can grab the phone to make a call or use technology available to speak with your loved ones. When we haven’t seen family and friends for extended amounts of time, our first instinct is to give someone a hug or kiss. Remember to avoid that direct contact. While we try to decrease the spread of COVID-19, you may have to wave this time.
Most of those returning home may have empty refrigerators and pantries, use the options available throughout the community to have groceries delivered or have family pick them up and deliver them to you.
We ask the community to spread this information to those returning for the season. Working together will stop the spread of COVID-19.
If you have questions, concerns or need assistance you can contact the Beadle County COVID-19 Call Center at (605) 353-6214.
