To say it was “raining” tornadoes in Jerauld County June 18th, would not be a complete understatement. Todd Heitkamp at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has completed a rather difficult survey of storm damage from last week…
The strongest Jerauld County tornado was rated E-F-four by Heitkamp. It lasted 40 minutes and traveled 11 and a half miles…
Tornadoes were also confirmed near Crow Lake in south central Jerauld County…
The tornadoes may have seemed to be laser guided hitting so many structures in a rural area but Heitkamp says overall the area was quite lucky….
Heitkamp was pleased to hear that people took the warnings with the storm seriously….
Including four tornadoes confirmed by the National Weather Service office in Aberdeen in parts of Hand, Hyde and Buffalo Counties, at least 14 tornadoes were produced by the storm over a four hour period.
