There’s been a dramatic drop in South Dakota’s pheasant population from last year.
State Game Official Travis Runia who conducts the annual pheasant survey says there has been a significant decline statewide in pheasants per mile.
He says drought and shrinking habitat are the biggest problems.
Its the second most serious decline since 1979. Runia still expects a good hunting season, perhaps similar to the nearly one million birds taken in 2013.
