An Alpena man has pleaded guilty in Federal Court to an immigration offense. U-S Attorney Brendan Johnson says Cristian Mendz-Barrientos pleaded guilty to an indictment on November eighth, charging him with Illegal re-entry to the United States after deportation. Mendez-Barrientos came into contact with law enforcement in Beadle County back on September 16th. A fingerprint check revealed Barrientos had been deported to Guatemala in 2010. The Huron Police Department and U-S Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigated the incident. U-S District Judge Karen Schreier ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Sentencing is set for December 14th. Barrientos is in the custody of the U-S Marshall’s Service pending sentencing.
