Ag-Land Property Tax Committee Meets

An interim legislative committee has decided to offer a bill to streamline property tax assessments.  The South Dakota Ag-land Property Tax Assessment Review committee held their last meeting of the year this week in Pierre.  Committee member Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot says it’s a minor change to the valuation adjustments…

The state is moving toward a system that assesses ag land on a production basis instead of on comparable sales.  Frerichs says there are only a few counties that have not made all their valuation adjustments…

Frerichs says they also decided to extend the deadline for all counties to move their property valuations…

The full legislature will debate the proposals in the 2012 session.
