A Clark rancher involved in a scheme to falsely obtain grazing privileges from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe has pleaded guilty to a federal indictment charging him with Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud. 59-year old Daniel Weber claimed that his cattle were owned by Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe members, so that he and others involved in the scheme could pasture non-Indian owned cattle on tribally owned grazing range units. The Cheyenne River Sioux were defrauded of approximately 18-thousand 378 dollars, because a six-dollar per head fee was never assessed on the cattle because the Tribe believed animals to be tribally owned. As a part of the plea agreement Weber agreed to be responsible for one-third of the the loss and will repay 12-thousand 252 dollars back to the Cheyenne River Sioux in restitution. Weber will be sentenced on April 16th and is currently out on bond, pending sentencing.
