US Attorney Brenden Johnson says a man from Guatemala who pleaded guilty in December to an indictment charging him with possession of fraudulent immigration documents has been sentenced to serve122 days in federal custody. Nelson Lopez was indicted by a federal grand jury last October. The charge arose from Lopez’s attempt to register a motor vehicle at the Jerauld County Treasurer’s office in Wessington Springs in November of 2010. Lopez provided a Permanent Resident Card as a form of identification. The card used by Lopez had his name on it and contained a valid number, but the number was issued to a different individual and not Lopez. Lopez was immediately turned over to the US Marshall’s service to begin serving his four-month sentence.
