PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Fourteen South Dakota counties now report at least one human case of West Nile virus. The state Health Department had confirmed 17 cases as of Monday. Ten people required hospitalization. The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes. Most people only suffer minor complications, although it can be fatal. There are three cases in Minnehaha County and two in Pennington County. Reporting one case each are Brown, Butte, Clay, Codington, Dewey, Douglas, Edmunds, Hamlin, Lake, Lincoln, Spink and Turner counties.
