Soldiers From DeSmet Detachment Return To US Today

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – The 113 Soldiers from the South Dakota Army National Guard’s 211th Engineer Company are scheduled to return stateside Monday after spending a year in Afghanistan.  The 211th has its headquarters unit in Madison and a detachment in DeSmet.  Its three sapper platoons use a variety of equipment and munitions for combat engineer missions such as placing or clearing minefields, roadside bombs, demolitions operations and field defenses.  The troops are scheduled to arrive in Wisconsin on Monday afternoon and report to Fort McCoy, where they’ll spend three days demobilizing.  They’ll then ride buses to South Dakota for a homecoming ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Dakota State Field House in Madison.
