The second annual Mason Moody/Jazz McGirr Invitational Bull Riding and Breakaway Roping Rodeo will be this Saturday night at the DEX on the state fairgrounds. The Moody and McGirr families organized last year’s event on very short notice and drew around 1500 spectators. Jazz McGirr said it’s good to have had more time the prepare this year.
Jazz is a 2022 Huron High School graduate, and a junior on the SDSU Rodeo team, and says there will be top breakaway ropers from across the region.
Mason Moody began the professional rodeo tour while he was still a senior at Sanborn Central High School, and the 20 year old Letcher native says he struggled with an injury this past year and missed out on qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo next month.
He says there will be top bull riders from across the region at the DEX Saturday night.
The invitational begins with a meet and greet at the DEX at 5, and that includes Santa, then a Calcutta at 615, and competition will begin at 7. There are other events as well, including youth barrel racing starting at 1030 Saturday morning.
