Ava McMahon a fifth grade student in the Redfield School District is the winner of the 2024 SD Arbor Day Poster contest. McMahon’s poster was chosen out of over 700 entries from fifth graders from across the state. Cassandra Bottum, art teacher with the Redfield School District said this is an annual contest.
McMahon’s first place poster was selected for the interpretation of this year’s theme “Tree’s in Television”. Ava will receive a $125 cash prize, a certificate of achievement and her poster will be featured on the poster contest promotional flyer. Her teachers Cassandra Bottum and Rachel Meyer will also receive $175 for the purchase of educational supplies. Cassie said this years theme helped inspire the students.
The preparation includes several steps including learning about a variety of topics.

Paulus Waldner of Hillcrest Colony School in Garden City was selected as the second-place winner. Waldner receives a $100 cash prize and a certificate of achievement. The third-place winner, Ruth Oumba Ngoma of Frontier Elementary in Tea, receives a $75 cash prize and a certificate of achievement.
