Terry Nebelsick of Huron has announced his intention to run for State Representative from District 22. A lifelong Republican, he will be running for one of the two vacated seats, as Rep. Roger Chase has reached the state term limits, and Rep. Lynn Schneider has announced his intention to retire from the legislature after the current term.
Terry and his wife Diana have lived in Huron for 29 years, where he served as principal of Huron High School, and then superintendent of schools before retiring in 2021.
Nebelsick has been active at the state level, where he continues to serve as Chairman – South Dakota School Finance Accountability Board, and Chairman – State Board of Education Standards. He is Past President – School Administrators of South Dakota, Past Chairman – South Dakota High School Activities Association, and Past President – South Dakota School Superintendents. He served for ten years as ex-officio member of the Huron Chamber of Commerce, Chamber Governmental Affairs Committee, and Greater Huron Economic Development Corporation. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Huron Area Center for Independence and on the Board of Trustees for Dakota Wesleyan University.
Terry and Diana are members of Huron Riverview United Methodist Church, where he serves on the Lead Team, sings in the choir, and serves as the pulpit supply for area churches. He’s been in the Kiwanis Service Club for over 30 years, volunteering his time at the State Fair Pancake House and the Salvation Army Christmas Basket Program.
The Nebelsick’s have three grown children and five grandchildren. In his announcement, Terry states, “I enjoy leading during the process of problem-solving. I try to bring people together to make the best decisions for all involved. I am willing to dedicate the time and energy to serve the residents of District 22 in Spink, Western Clark, and Beadle County.”
