Red Flag Warning Continues

A Red Flag Warning continues for a third day today for extremely dangerous wild and grass land fire conditions. Fire crews in Beadle County were busy yesterday with fire departments in Huron, Wessington, Wolsey, Cavour and Hitchcock responding to at least 10 calls. Huron dispatch recorded 21 fire calls including calls in Jerauld, Hand, Spink and Kingsbury Counties. The call log does not reflect if the calls were for wildfires or structure fires. Beadle County Emergency Manager Tom Moeding is strongly discouraging ANY open burning of any kind an absolutely no burning of garbage outside until conditions get better, Moeding wants farmers to use extreme caution in fields when harvesting, and recommend farmers have not only a fire extinguisher to put out a blaze but water to cool the area down. Spink County is encouraging residents to refrain from any activity that could cause a fire including the operation of large machinery on or near dry grasses, crops, trees or buildings. The Red Flag Warning continues 8 PM tonight. The area is also under an Extreme Fire Danger and Wind Advisory. The Wind Advisory is posted until 8 PM Friday
