An attempt to raise entrance fees to the South Dakota State Fair was headed off by a legislative committee on Tuesday. State Fair officials came to the rules review committee with a proposal to raise the gate fee from $6 to $10. Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton told them that they did not follow the right procedures.
Hunhoff said the fair and the Department of Ag and Natural Resources should have put a fee proposal in their budget.
Hunhoff is co-chair of the joint committee on appropriations said that was where the plan should have gone.
The committee voted 4-1 to revert the rule to an earlier step, in effect stopping it for the time being.
