The Huron City Commission approved four plats at their weekly meeting last night. One plat was related to a variance and conditional use permit approved by the Board of Adjustment, who met earlier during the meeting. Northwestern Energy asked for the variance and conditional use permit so it can build a natural gas regulator station on the southwest corner of the intersection of 9th Street and Custer Avenue. The regulator will service the Day-Pro by-products plant being build near the Dakota Provisions plant east of Huron. Two of the plats approved were for two new water towers in Huron. Dakota Turkey Growers’ had land platted just southwest of the Dakota Provision plant for a half million gallon tower. The Greater Huron Development Corporation had a parcel of land platted near Lincoln Avenue and 8th Street Northwest for a one-million gallon water tower similar to the one near 21st Street and Frank Avenue. The final plat request approved combined four to five properties as one, just north of the Heartland Grain Fuels ethanol plant. After approximately 21 minutes the Huron City Commission went into executive session for two items, then held a work session on the 2012 City Budget and a discussion regarding an intergovernmental agreement with Beadle County regarding the services of Building Inspector Roger Bell.
