VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER STEPS DOWN AFTER 30 YEARS

The City of Huron Traffic supervisor, Troy Merriam has been active as a volunteer fire fighter for 30 years on October 16.

Merriam said he he loved every minute of helping the people of Beadle County for 30 and it was a great ride but the time came to step aside.

Merriam said he had the dream of being a fire fighter after watching the television series, Emergency which aired for several seasons beginning in 1972.

A lot of time is spent educating children about fire safety and as a result many kids growing up have dreams similar to that of Merriam.

Here Troy is giving his grandson a look inside one of the Huron Fire rigs.

He will step down from the fire fighter volunteer position on October 17.
