While the drought and low water levels have caused many concerns. The conditions along the James river at Huron down stream from the dam have provided an opportunity for needed improvements. Earlier this year the city supply of rip rap from Spencer Quaries was put in place below the dam and along the banks of the river past the 3rd street bridge. The rock will prevent erosion in high water times and the rock below the dam will reduce undertow from water over the dam improving safety. The stabilization work was completed by Olson Construction. The concrete work for improved walkways is being completed by Top Grade Concrete who has been involved with city contracts for curb and gutter replacement and other work this summer. Steps being poured on 9/22/2021 will allow for safer access for fishermen on the west side.
