The results are in, in the latest Performance Radio News Poll on Facebook. We asked you if you were a school board member in the Wessington Springs School District how would you suggest the board deals with Superintendent Lance Witte. 60-percent of respondents said Witte should be fired immediately. 19-percent said the embattled Superintendent should serve out the 30 to 45 day administrative leave the school board has placed on him, then be allowed back to work. 11-percent said ASK for a resignation. Six-percent DEMAND a resignation and four-percent said end the administrative leave immediately and let Witte back to work. A number of comments were left regarding the poll including Janet Coleman who said quote…Use this as a positive thing. He gets help and pays for his fines, community service, etc. Use him to teach our youngsters what happens with alcohol and the costly tolls it causes. Let the kids see him in the court room, sitting in the jail cell. Turn this negative into a positive. Unless he’s drinking at school, don’t destroy his entire career, especially if he’s good at his job and with the kids, just don’t let him behind a wheel. Hopefully with all the bad press he’s getting people will support him getting the help he needs.” Vic Zimmerman says quote…Once is a whoops twice is a problem. Ask for a resignation, if he does not then terminate. There are just certain things in certain job that just are not acceptable, this is one. If you want to make the personal choice to drink that is not a problem, but you are responsible for your actions, sober or drunk. You can not force any one to get help, he has to want it himself. I personally know this for a fact, 27 years sober. Finally Dianne Rheborg says quote…”Ask for a resignation, and if he refuses terminate him. Our children are our first responsibility and altho I know alcoholism is a disease, we need to put the children first. If he gets help and can leave the problem behind him then he can teach again, but not until he proves his sobriety. Teachers need to be role models”.
