BEADLE AND SANBORN COUNTY VACCINATION POD SCHEDULED

The Beadle County Covid-19 Unified Task Force has scheduled a vaccination POD for Saturday April 24th that will begin at 8am.  Any Beadle or Sanborn County resident who is over 18 years of age is encouraged to participate by scheduling an appointment.  The taskforce plans to distribute 350 does of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, so only one dose is required.  Information being distributed about this vaccination, mentioned the vaccine is not part of a national recall.  We checked with Doug Ramsell with the Beadle County Unified Task Force to clarify that statement.

According to a March 31 statement from Johnson and Johnson, quality control identified a batch of drug substance did not meet standards at Emergent Biosolutions which is a site not yet authorized to manufacture drug substance for Covid-19 vaccine.  The batch was never advanced to the filing and finishing stages for the manufacturing process.  Johnson and Johnson stated that this is an example of the rigorous quality control applied to each batch of drug substances, the issue was identified and addressed with Emergent and shared with the US Food and Drug administration.

The Huron vaccination POD on April 24th will be held at the community Covid-19 testing facility that has been in use for several months.  The address is 191 Union Ave nw in Huron in the west industrial park.  Appointments are required for Beadle and Sanborn county residents, call 353-6214, call between 8 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday.  Lines may be busy so call back if you do not get through the first time.  A total of 350 Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccines will be distributed.
