HURON PUBLIC LIBRARY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The Huron Public Library is opening its doors after being closed to the public for 6 months due to the pandemic. The limited services will begin Tuesday, September 8th. The Library asks that the public practice social distancing, wear masks and wash their hands or use hand sanitizer when using the facility. Masks and plastic gloves will be available for the public to use.

Patrons will have access to the book and audio collections to select their own materials. DVDs will be available by title request only. Curbside service will change to “Carry Out” service. Patrons may phone in advance to request specific items which will be checkout to them. When they arrive all they do is ask for their materials which will be ready to go. Virtual programming will continue until 2021. There will be limited seating for the public to use. Access to the South Dakota room will be by appointment – ask for Jennifer. No library fines will be charged until October 5th when they will be re-instated.

Services not available will be: Access to public service computers, Wi-Fi hotspots, toys & games, in house programming, Friends of the Library bookstore (it will open October 5th), no use of library phones by the public, coffee service will not be available, children under the age of 10 must have adult supervision, no outside group meetings will be scheduled at this time, water access will be limited to bottle water refills only.

Library hours will be: Monday 9 am to 8 pm, Tuesday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 2 pm. We ask that the public enter the library through the west door only. The east door will be locked. The library will continue to quarantine returned materials to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Library Director, Shirley Apley, states that after 30 days if all is going well we will return to full services. We want to thank the public for their patience and understanding during these past six months. We truly missed you!
